CVS and Rite Aid each have prescription drug prices that can be so high that even some of the nation's biggest pharmacy chains have dropped prices.
Pharmacy chains CVS and Rite Aid have dropped prices for two of the most popular prescription drugs, including Viagra.
For example, Rite Aid has lowered the price of Viagra by more than 60 percent since July 17.
CVS has also lowered the price of the erectile dysfunction drug Cialis from $8.47 for a 30-count bottle to $1.88 for a single pill.
For $6.41 per 30-count bottle of Cialis, Rite Aid's price drops to $1.86.
For $2.99 per 30-count bottle of Viagra, Rite Aid's price drops to $1.86.
For $3.16 per 30-count bottle of Viagra, Rite Aid's price drops to $1.86.
CVS and Rite Aid also dropped prices for two other popular prescription drugs, including Lipitor, the cholesterol-lowering medicine.
In a letter to consumers to, CVS and Rite Aid spokesman Bill Kelly said that the drug prices at the chains and the pharmacy chains are "the same" and that "there is no difference in price." Rite Aid said its price for Lipitor dropped slightly, and "for all of our customers," the price for Lipitor rose to $8.48.
Kelly said customers who have questions about their prices should check with the pharmacy or the company's website, which lists prescription drug prices at CVS and Rite Aid.
"They should check the website or call (212) 988-4151 and ask what the price was for this drug," he said.
